What Is Happy Capitalism?

At the end of every CIBN meeting we enthusiastically say “Happy Capitalism!”

What do we mean by that?

Over the years we have met people from countries where capitalism is not considered a good thing. There were people groups who were exploited in the name of capitalism. There are famous people who have made a fortune off capitalism and there are those who do not like those people, so one might wonder why we would say this. Others may have a belief system that supports socialism or other philosophies. So why would we mention capitalism in a positive way?

Capitalism – an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. That is the simple definition.

Capitalism refers to buying and selling and having ownership over land, property or businesses. When we refer to “Happy Capitalism” we are not giving a license to rape, pillage, and plunder in the name of profit. We are simply acknowledging that we are Happy Capitalists who enjoy buying, selling, building, adding value and providing good service. That is what a Happy Capitalist does. That is our definition of a Happy Capitalist.

Capitalism is a free market system where people can do business. We are lucky to live in a country where capitalism can thrive because without it businesses would not thrive or have tax breaks. Those are necessary to employ people. Employed people sometimes forget that without someone buying or selling something somewhere there would be no revenue for salaries. Those who work for government sometimes do not stop to realize that someone had to work for private enterprise and pay taxes for them to have a job. Capitalism is the one “ism” that funds all of the other “isms.” Think about it…

Is Capitalism Evil?

Capitalism is not good nor evil. It is people that make it so, and evil people find ways to be evil in every economic system.

We hope that you will join us in being Happy Capitalists.
